Erectile Dysfunction FAQ’s

What is erectile dysfunction (ED)? A sexual dysfunction characterized by the inability to develop or maintain an erection of the penis during sexual performance.

Is impotence the same as erectile dysfunction? Yes, the terms mean the same.

What is Premature Ejaculation (PE)? Premature ejaculation is often confused with erectile dysfunction. Premature ejaculation is a condition in which the entire process of arousal, erection, ejaculation, and climax occur very rapidly, often in just a few minutes or even seconds, leaving both the sexual partner and the one experiencing premature ejaculation unsatisfied. Premature ejaculation may accompany an erection problem such as ED, but PE is generally treated differently.

What causes erectile dysfunction? Erectile dysfunction can result from a problem with the brain, hormones, emotions, nerves, muscles, or blood vessels. Stress and mental health problems can also cause or worsen erectile dysfunction. In most cases, erectile dysfunction is caused by something physical. Common causes include heart disease, clogged blood vessels (atherosclerosis), high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome (involving increased blood pressure), high insulin levels, body fat around the waist, high cholesterol, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, low testosterone, Peyronie’s disease (development of scar tissue inside the penis), certain prescription medications, tobacco use, alcoholism and other forms of substance abuse, treatments for prostate cancer or enlarged prostate, and surgeries or injuries that affect the pelvic area or spinal cord.

What are erectile dysfunction treatment options? Universal Men’s Clinic prescribes customized medications, based on each patient’s individual needs. These solutions, which are taken sublingually, enhance the effects of nitric oxide, a natural chemical that your body produces that relaxes the muscles in the penis. This increases blood flow and allows an erection to occur in response to sexual stimulation. ED medications vary in dosage and a patient‘s preference about how long his erection will last. Inadequate production of testosterone is not a common cause of erectile dysfunction. However, when ED symptoms do occur due to decreased testosterone production, Testosterone Replacement Therapy may improve the problem.

Can UMC provide erectile dysfunction solutions, even if Viagra® or Cialis® didn’t work? Yes, the customized medications used by our doctors are successful ED treatment options for most men, even if popular ‘one size fits all’ medications like Viagra, Cialis, or Levitra have not worked. Universal Men’s Clinic specializes in determining the proper erectile dysfunction treatment at the precise dose that your body needs. The result is that patients who experience occasional or permanent erectile dysfunction are able to gain a full erection without side effects or inconsistent results. UMC doctors commonly restore full sexual function, even in men who have not had an erection in 10-20 years.

What are the side effects of ED treatments? There can be side effects during treatment for ED, but they usually don’t last longer than a few hours. Some of these side effects are more likely to occur when higher dosages are used. They include headache, facial flushing, and upset stomach. The erectile dysfunction treatment may also briefly cause bluish or blurred vision or sensitivity to light. In rare instances, men taking PDE5 inhibitors (oral erectile dysfunction treatments) reported a sudden decrease or loss of vision, or sudden decrease or loss of hearing. If you experience any of these symptoms, stop taking PDE5 inhibitors and call Universal Men’s Clinic right away. ED medications may cause other side effects besides those listed here.

Why seek ED treatment options at Universal Men’s Clinic when I have my own physician? While many physicians are familiar with erectile dysfunction and its symptoms, the physicians at Universal Men’s Clinic specialize in ED treatment. They have treated thousands of men with the same problems as you. Universal Men’s Clinic prides itself on a professional, discreet medical environment with guaranteed results.

How many office visits will it take to address my ED problem? Typically, our doctors can restore full function in one office visit, even if a patient has not had an erection in years.

Am I a candidate for erectile dysfunction treatment or ED therapy if I have had a problem for a long period of time? Universal Men’s Clinic is so confident we can restore your sexual health, we guarantee our ED treatments. If we cannot help, your office visit is free.

How long will my erections last on the medication from Universal Men’s Clinic? The duration of a man’s erection depends on his and his partner’s preference. Erectile dysfunction solutions can be adjusted to match anyone’s individual needs.

Are there any pre-existing health issues that I need to know about before taking ED medications? Yes. Always inform your UMC doctor of all medications that you are taking before being treated for erectile dysfunction. Men with prior heart conditions should be able to climb two flights of stairs and be cleared by their primary care physician as healthy enough to engage in sexual activity before starting erectile dysfunction treatment.
